Advocacy Tools

Easy-to-use resources include:

The Healthy Opportunities Pilot’s track record is impressive and nationally recognized. Unfortunately, HOP is not currently funded in the state budget, and we risk losing all the progress we’ve made supporting tens of thousands of North Carolina families with critical health needs.

On this page, you will find a list of advocacy resources and recent media coverage on Medicaid and HOP funding losses. You’ll also find information on Take Action Tuesday,  a live statewide phone banking event we held on September 16th to help educate our legislators about HOP’s positive impact on North Carolina families and communities.

Because the North Carolina General Assembly ended the recent extra session without a budget agreement, there is still time to help us advocate! Email [email protected] to receive your DIY phone banking kit. The next legislative session starts October 20th.

As a reminder, there are some considerations to keep in mind.

Don't
  • Use HOP funds, time, or resources to recruit storytellers.
  • Lead with fear. Clients’ wellbeing should always come first.
Do
  • Make it clear that advocacy is optional and not required for services.
  • Connect clients to advocacy tools (contact lists, impact data).
  • Choose stories and storytellers that support key messages
(improved health, independence, thriving local economies).
