Gabriela is excited to continue fulfilling her passion for serving the Hispanic and other BIPOC communities as Impact Health’s Community Health Worker Project Manager. With more than 17 years of experience serving historically marginalized populations, Gabriela will work directly with our senior director of innovation and EDI development to facilitate the Community Health Worker Funding Opportunity. She found her love for serving these communities after she became a licensed attorney in Chihuahua, Mexico. Gabriela moved to the United States where she earned her master’s degree in justice administration from the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
Gabriela started her legal career as a bilingual victim advocate for Domestic Violences and Crimes Against Children Unit at the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Louisville. She continued her work in the social justice field after moving to Asheville in 2008, working with Pisgah Legal Services as a bilingual court advocate for the Mountain Violence Prevention Program.
Most recently, Gabriela became the SOAR-Family Drug Treatment Court Coordinator in Buncombe County, where her commitment opened doors for her to work in the foster care system and the Buncombe County Department of Social Services.
In 2017, Gabriela received the Allied Professional Award from the Western North Carolina Crime Victim’s Coalition and was honored by Hola Carolina Magazine for her work and dedication to serving Hispanic communities.
Gabriela lives in Asheville with her family, their two dogs and cat. When she isn’t working, she loves to hike and travel, exploring new parts of the world.
