Margarita is the executive director of Centro Unido Latino Americano (CULA), a nonprofit serving the rural residents of McDowell County and surrounding areas. Founded in 2009, CULA provides a variety of services to support the Latinx community including translation services and connection to culturally appropriate food, healthcare and other community resources.
As a mother of two and an immigrant, Margarita has experienced many of the barriers that the Latinx community faces on a regular basis. This inspired her to become involved in her community to help create ways to break through barriers. Under Margarita’s leadership, CULA has expanded its team and its services to include additional opportunities for health, career, education, and cultural representation in Western North Carolina.
